Campaigning for Salt Lake's Future
From the earliest age, my parents raised me with the value of community service and involvement. My mother, Ann House, has spent her life supporting the non-profit organizations in our city. My father, Fred House, was a well-loved correctional officer who was killed in the line of duty. The Fred F. House Training Academy in Bluffdale was named in recognition of his service. Along with my grandparents, Carlos and Wanda Whiting, I want to follow in their footsteps and share the personal satisfaction of being in service to my community.
As a native Utahn and over 10 year resident of our capital hill neighborhood, I am committed to protecting our residential neighborhoods -- neighborhoods with a distinguished legacy of character and beauty.
While acquiring my masters degree in urban planning, I was exposed to the issues that threaten the prosperity and integrity of our city. These include land use issues like urban sprawl, preserving open space, and traffic concerns. The skills I gained through my work and my education bring an understanding of what makes a good city great. I am asking for your help in putting these skills to work for you and our community.
My work experience gives me knowledge of the inner-workings of city and county government and the leadership skills to make things happen. This work includes:
- Interim Program Manager of Salt Lake Countys Zoo, Arts, and Parks Program
- Salt Lake County Community Services Department, Open Space Program
- Director of the Childrens Program of the National Correction Peace Officers Foundation
- Salt Lake County Planning Development Office
- Internship at the Salt Lake City Planning Office
- Internship at the Bureau of Justice Assistance, U.S. Department of Justice
Finally, I believe that our community deserves to be represented by someone who, like me, shares its values and consistently votes them; someone prepared to take a stand to preserve our open space, quality of life, and visions of equality; someone prepared to fight to preserve what is unique about our neighborhood. As that person, I ask for your support.
